Chromatic Pedal Tuner With Large LED Display
High precision, advanced functionality and sleek style make this new guitar/bass pedal tuner from Korg their most advanced yet. The Korg Pitchblack is the same size as a compact effect unit, and features a tough aluminum die-cast body that will endure hard use on the road or in the studio. While small in size, this strobe tuner boasts a large; easy to read LED meter with a light-emitting surface for excellent visibility in any setting from daylight, to stage light and to no light at all, as well as an extremely smooth eleven-segment LED meter that allows accurate visual tuning from any angle. With a red LED that indicates the tuner's on/off status, a large note name display, and a tuning guide that indicates whether your instrument is sharp or flat, you'll always be able to tune quickly and accurately in any situation. The Pitchblack provides a tuning range of E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz), and adjustable calibration between 436 -- 445 Hz.

Strobe Tuner With Four Display Modes
The Korg Pitchblack's LED meter can be switched between four display modes including: Meter mode, Full Strobe mode, Half Strobe mode and Mirror mode.

  • Meter mode
Similar to using a needle meter, tune your instrument with this pedal tuner so that the green LED in the center of the LED display lights and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The tuning LED's will be to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of the center if it is flat.

  • Full Strobe mode
Using this pedal tuner, tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The LED meters will stream from left to right if your instrument is sharp and from right to left if it is flat.

  • Half Strobe mode
Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and only the green LED in the center is lit and both tuning guide LEDs are lit. The LED meters will stream to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of center if it is flat. When the pitch is correct, only the center LED will be lit.

  • Mirror mode
Tune your instrument with this pedal tuner so that the two LEDs on the left and right sides of the center LED meet in the middle and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The pitch lit LEDs will spread farther apart the more your instrument is out of tune. The left tuning guide will light if your instrument is flat, and the right tuning guide will light if it is sharp.

100% True Bypass output keeps your tone intact.
The Pitchblack mutes the input signal for silent tuning, and when you're not tuning, the input is passed directly to the output jack without being affected by any circuitry (True Bypass). Therefore, even if you connect the pedal tuner between several of your favorite pedals, the signal will pass without going through the internal buffer amp, ensuring that the sounds you've created using your effects will not be colored in any way. The Pitchblack is designed to coexist transparently with other effect pedals.

A perfect fit in your pedal board plus the DC output powers other pedals.
The Pitchblack is designed to fit conveniently into your pedal board system. This pedal tuner provides a DC OUT jack that can supply power to other effect pedals when the optional AC adaptor is used. By connecting optional DC cables, you can supply up to 200 mA of power to multiple effect pedals, simplifying the power connections in your pedal board.

Three-Year Warranty
Korg pedal tuners purchased from a Korg USA authorized dealer now have a three year warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Everything anyone needs in a stage tuner   August 26, 2010
Ian M. Mcclintock (Midwest USA)
This is pretty much the ideal tuner, as far as I'm concerned. It's true-bypass, brilliantly visible and easy to read on a dark stage, accurate, small footprint, durable, powers all your other pedals, and is under $100, especially if bought used...its virtues are many and varied. If you've been using a cheap crappy tuner like I was, you'll notice the difference all the more.

If you want a hyper-accurate tuner for some kind of technical work, the Pitchblack's tolerances might not be quite what you're looking for. But as far as stage tuners go, it's got a tighter tolerance than the Boss stompbox.

If you want a buffer in your chain, this pedal won't supply it, as it is true-bypass.

If you want to hear your strings ringing out while you tune, this is not the pedal for you. The output is muted while the tuner is engaged. I prefer not to make my audience listen to me tune, so for me this is a non-issue. Plus, I like being able to use the pedal as a killswitch.

These are the only circumstances I can think of where there might be a valid reason not to buy a Pitchblack right this instant.

5 out of 5 stars Korg Pitchblack True Bypass - Excellent   August 25, 2010
Eddie (Arkansas, USA)
I've been using the Korg Pitchblack for about a month now in a church praise band. The device has true bypass and there is no change in the sound of the guitar when patched through the tuner. It allows me to bypass my guitar amp and tune silently while on stage. If I'm not playing at the beginning of a song, I can tune silently until its time for the guitar entrance. The tuner is sturdy enough and the foot switch works great. It does a great job of tuning the guitar and it was much cheaper than the Boss tuner that I considered. Excellent tuner!

5 out of 5 stars Great Tuner   August 23, 2010
J. Stephens (Statesboro, Georgia USA)
Works great with a 4 or 5 string bass and with both electric and acoustic-electric guitars. Finds the note fast, is very sensitive and very stable at the same time. I ordered an AC adapter directly from Korg and they jobbed it out to a company in Illinois that builds adapters. It is ok, but has the minimum power specifified for the tuner. I doubt that it will power additional components on a pedal board, though, in fairness I haven't tried it as a pass-through power supply. Some of the modes don't suit me very well, but that is a matter of preference. They work fine. My favorite is the simple center needle mode. I mostly use it sitting on the amp and always on (with power supply) rather than as a pass-through box. It works fine in pass-through mode and is perfectly quiet, it's just more convenient for my setup to have it sitting on top of the amp. My amp has a tuner out so I am completely outside of the signal path for the amp. I think it's the best of both worlds. The tuner is heavy, sturdy, and very easy to see and use. Even though I don't use all of its features regularly, it's nice to have them for situations that may come up. I would definitely buy another one if I wasn't already up to my ears in tuners of other kinds. The price here is much better than I have found elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT KORG TUNER   July 28, 2010
T. Shaw (RICHMOND,VIRGINIA)
WORKED AS ADVERTISED AND SIMPLE TO USE, NO FIDDLING WITH NOTES BOUNCING ALL OVER THE PLACE LOCKS RIGHT ON.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the best for any price range   July 24, 2010
RustyMetal
this is the Fastest, most visible, most accurate and best looking tuner on the planet, It has the truest signal bypass, I always test ne pedals separately on a class A tube amp on clean to separate the fakers and gladly re-gift there merchandise back to them. Don't look at any thing else, trust me I'm the hardest person to please, If this pedal broke and boss cut their price in half, I would still buy this pedal no doubt. there is no confusing outlines of non-illuminated tunings, it pretty much guides you to the right tuning by the strobe leds that can be seen from outer space. Me and Korg need to work out a sponsorship, because I would never tune with another brand, and I use the cheap portable one to take places in my guitar case, had that for 3 years and I don't recall even replacing a battery. Well done Korg, now pat yourself on the back, relax or take a vacation, and don't try and over complicate a tuner like most, the beauty is in its simplicity. Great for a engineer guitarist. Sorry for the essay. BUY!
