Not good for electric or acoustic August 17, 2010 Dylan P. (Elk Grove, CA, USA) I first bought this product to tune an electric (Fender Strat). As with another one-star review, it simply wouldn't tune the E or A strings. Since it functions by measuring the vibrations in the guitar, and not the sound traveling in the air, I thought perhaps I had placed it in a nodal dead spot on the head. Alas, I found there is absolutely no location on the guitar that I can clamp this thing to get a valid reading. When it did register, the meter would jump to sharp, to flat, then to zero. I went back to using the $15 Fender tuner I picked up years ago.
I've subsequently picked up an acoustic guitar, and figured that the additional vibrations would turn the tide on the usability of this tuner. Not so. I still get spotty readings on all strings. I find myself able to tune the D and G strings and I tune the others off those two.
If you're considering this for the ability to tune an electric quietly or in a noisy environment where ambient noise interferes with an audio tuner instead of a vibration sensing tuner, don't buy it. If you're considering it for home use where you can pluck as hard as you want or turn up the volume on your amp, don't buy it. If you're considering it to tune your E and A strings at all, don't buy it. If you are buying it to leave it in your guitar case and use a different tuner, then it's a good fit for you.
non-musician gives two thumbs up July 24, 2010 Russ Jackson (Southwest MO, United States) My kids play guitar and I noticed that they just weren't sounding quite right. Their electronic tuner went out and they had been tuning manually. I did some research and selected this tuner (the video in one of the other reviews helped tremendously). The tuner arrived quickly from Amazon.com, I inserted the battery that came with it, put the tuner on my daughter's acoustic guitar, turned it on and in just a couple of minutes I (a non-musician) had her guitar tuned. I had no problem tuning any of the strings. She then played it and it sounded fantastic. We then did the same with my son's electric guitar with the same results. We had no trouble whatsoever tuning any of the strings. Great product.
Excellent tuner!! July 14, 2010 J. Rios (NV USA) When I first bought this tuner I was a little skeptic. I had read the reviews and they were somewhat mixed. But for the price I thought I would give it a try. At first tuning was a little wonky, but it turns out it was user error! I tuned using another tuner first and then when I used the Intelli tuner, it was right on!! I love being able to tune my guitar while there is other noise in the room. Plus, being able to tune other instruments make this a real deal!! I have a requinto which is a smaller guitar tuned 4 notes higher than a regular guitar, this means that the tuning is A D G C E A. Using my old tuner was a pain, but with the intelli, it works like a charm! I can also leave it on my guitar while its in the case. I would highly recommend this tuner to anyone searching for a small reliable tuner!
Great Tuner July 14, 2010 samjoe Great tuner! I use it with a mandolin and even when it is loud in the room, I can still tune.
It is not accurate June 25, 2010 echiu 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Intelli IMT-900 is not very responsive to input frequency change. I guess, just guess, this is because of too long the total sampling period.
The low frequency is not measured accurately. Again, I guess this is due to the logarithmic scaling of FFT sampling freq.
